Country Fair of the Daleks

I was just going through my photos with a view to assembling a 2012 highlights album for Facebook, something I do every year (although it’s not called ’2012 highlights’ every year, for reasons which should be fairly obvious). While browsing, I found these, from mid-2011, and our excursion to the Abingdon Air Show.

If you’re wondering why Josh looks so terrified in those first two, it’s because I told him the Daleks had working lasers and that he had five minutes to start behaving.*

  1. I’m so envious – I’d love to meet a Dalek!

Is the guy behind K9 supposed to be a Ghostbuster, by any chance? :)

I think it might be a Top Gun uniform, but I honestly can’t remember – it was eighteen months ago! They’re usually there every year, so if we go again this summer I’lll find out…

      • I used to live in Cheltenham and never made it to the Abingdon air show! Every time my husband and I visit Cheltenham though, we stop by The Aviator bar/restaurant on Staverton Airfield. My Dad got an incredible photo of the Vulcan XH558 when he was there recently :)

  2. He doesn’t look impressed at all! I noticed just the other day that I see people’s pictures of their kids at famous places (or with cultural artefacts – above) and they don’t look impressed at all to be having their photo taken. I do wonder if as photos are so cheap these days that they don’t appreciate how special the good ones will become. I’ve just found a picture from 1984 (Liverpool) with me and a Dalek and I am very happy to be having my photo taken!

At this point in the day, it was pushing four o’clock and we’d just shouted at them both again, so I guess it wasn’t a fair reflection of how he’d normally behave if he met a Dalek. (It’s better than Daniel at that Bromyard museum – he came face to face with the Nation’s finest and practically screamed the place down.)

  3. Hahaha, this is brilliant!!

  4. Aw, I love these! His smile in the shot with K-9 is so great.

I’m assuming this is Mark IV since you made no mention of the Abingdon Air Show being located on Gallifrey (and he’s not looking blown up enough to be III).

This is the part where I give a blank nod and then say “…yes, probably…”
